Week 8
I have completed all my learning targets and my powerpoint is finished. My project is ready to be handed up to the teacher.
Week 7
I found out that there are 2 types of digestions - Physical digestion and Chemical digestion
Physical Digestion
Your teeth help to break big pieces of food physically into smaller pieces. The physical breakdown of food into smaller pieces without any chemical change to the molecules of the food is called physical digestion.Smaller pieces of food have a larger surface area compared to a big piece of food.
- Chemical Digestion
Chemical digestion is the breakdown of large food molecules into smaller molecules. The enzymes speed up specific chemical reactions in the body. Enzymes are special proteins produced by the body.Saliva contains enzymes which speeds up the breakdown of the large food molecules into smaller food molecules.
Week 6
An ideal diet is that we have a balanced diet, that means that we consume an adequate amount of each type of food type. If we have a balanced diet, we will be healthier and we will be less prone to illnesses like flu. A balanced diet makes a person grow stronger and taller.
Week 5
Week 4
A balanced diet is important because a balanced diet strikes a balance amongst the five food groups and gives the body the right amount of nutrients that it needs for overall good health. Eating a balanced diet is not about having one good meal. It is about creating healthy eating habits and maintaining it over a period of time. It is not at all an easy thing to do.
Week 3
Parts that make up the digestive system-
Mouth - The tongue and the teeth are found in the mouth. The inside of the mouth is lubricated with saliva that comes from the salivary glands. The teeth chew the food in to pieces to make it easier to digest. Saliva also contains an enzyme that breaks down starch.
Esophagus - From the mouth, food goes down the esophagus through the throat. The esophagus is a muscular tube that can open and close at the throat. It can also open and close to the stomach. The walls of the esophagus consist of smooth muscles. The wavelike movement of these muscles, called peristalsis, pushes the food down to the stomach.
Stomach - Once the food enters the stomach, gastric juices are used to break down the food. Some substances are absorbed muscle lining of the stomach. The stomach contains three layers of smooth muscles which also produce peristaltic movements to continue breaking down the food.
Intestines - Its wall are made of smooth muscles. The work of the small intestines is to digest food, which can then be absorbed by the blood. The work of the large intestine is to absorb water from the undigested food, hold the undigested food for a while and then excrete it as feces.
Week 2
Carbohydrates - You find them in sugary and starchy foods like potatoes, rice, cereals, pasta, bread and some fruit and vegetables.
Proteins - You find them in meats, poultry, fish, dairy products, eggs.
Fats - You find them in dairy products, meats, some poultry and fish.
Fibre - You find fibre in lots of food likecereals, fruit, bread and vegetables.
Minerals - Minerals are in lots of foods but are especially infresh fruit and vegetables.
Vitamins - Vitamins are mostly found in dairy products, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Week 1
I have done a meal log for a four day period. I found out that most of my meals contain meat and rice and alternatives and I also found out that I ate the least of vegetables and fruits.
